     School  of Resource and Environmental Engineering consists of four first-class  disciplines: Mining Engineering, Safety Science and Engineering,  Environmental Science and Engineering, and Geography.

Majors Provided

      SREE consists of four departments, including Mineral Processing  Engineering, Resource Engineering, Safety Science & Engineering, and  Environmental Science & Engineering. SREE has six undergraduate  programs, including Mineral Processing Engineering, Mining Engineering,  Safety Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Human Geography &  Urban Planning, and Geographic Information Science. Among them, Mineral  Processing Engineering is a state-level characteristic major, as well as  a major supported by national excellent engineer education program. It  is also a pilot for related majors’ comprehensive reform in Hubei.

Discipline Advantage

      With a distinct inter-disciplinary advantage, SREE subject setting  possesses distinctive features in academic research and engineering  application of the following fields: efficient vanadium mineral  extraction, deep processing, deep underground metal mine mining and  disaster prevention and control, emission reduction and resource  recycling of mining and metallurgy processes, mine safety and disaster  prevention, deep processing and fine processing of minerals, theory and  technology of ecological environment restoration in mining and  metallurgy, industrial glue gas pollution control, and water treatment.  In 2018, the cross-school developed discipline--Metallurgy and Mining  was selected as “Double First-class” construction discipline of Hubei  Province.

Faculty

      The total faculty and staff of our School is 101, among which 86 are  full-time teachers, 35 are professors (20 doctoral tutors, and 56 master  tutors), and 26 are associate professors. In addition, nine staff have  been receiving the special government allowance or awarded as Hubei  Outstanding Young-Middle Age Experts, 42 staff have enjoyed posts in  nationally or internationally academic groups, and 8 staff have been  recruited as overseas part-time professors.

Platform Development

      SREE has worked with the Material, Metallurgy discipline in WUST to set  up laboratories including a “State Key Laboratory of Refractory  Materials and Metallurgy” and a “Key Laboratory for Ferrous Metallurgy  and Resources Utilization under the Ministry of Education”. The School  also possesses many scientific research institutes, including the  “Nationally key Laboratory of Environmental Protection, Mineral and  Metallurgy Resources Utilization and Pollution Control”, “Hubei’s  Collaborative Innovation Center of Efficiently Clean Utilization of  Vanadium Resources”, “Hubei’s Key Laboratory of Highly Efficient  Utilization and Agglomeration of Metallurgical Mineral Resources”,  “Hubei’s Engineering and Technology Research Center for Highly  Efficiently Clean Utilizing Shale Vanadium Resources”, “Hubei’s  Engineering and Technology Research Center for Industrial Safety”,  “Metallurgical Auxiliary Materials Research Institute”, “Environmental  Science & Engineering Research Center” and “Explosion Technology  Research Institute”.

Education and Teaching

      Currently, SREE has 1223 undergraduate students and 267 postgraduate  students. There are four teaching teams, including“Innovative Teaching  Team for Safety Science and Engineering”. One teacher was awarded as  “BaoSteel Excellent Teacher” and three teachers “Teaching Models”.  In  recent years, SREE has won one first prize, three second prizes and  three third prizes of Hubei Provincial Teaching Achievement Awards. SREE  has offered two Provincial-level Quality Courses, two Bilingual  Teaching Model Courses and published 12 textbooks. It also has developed  Mineral Engineering Experiment Center, Safety Engineering Experiment  Center, Environmental Engineering Teaching Demonstration Center, and six  University-Enterprise Joint Training Bases with enterprise, like  Sinosteel Wuhan Safety & Environmental Protection Research Institute. In  2017, Mineral Processing Engineering passed the accreditation of  Engineering Education by the Ministry of Education.

Research Achievements

      In recent years, SREE has won three second prizes of National Science  & Technology Progress Awards, one National Technical Inventions  Award, 35 Provincial and Ministerial Scientific Achievements Awards, and  168 State Authorized Patents. It has also conducted 76 national-level  research projects, such as “National 863 Program”, “National Science and  Technology Pillar Program”, and “National Natural Science Foundation  Program”; it has also undertaken more than 600 horizontal research  projects with a total funding of 90 Million RMB. In addition, SREE has  has published 18 academic monographs, 1500 academic papers in many  national and international journals, among which around 360 have been  included by SCI and EI databases.

Exchange and Communication

      In academic exchange and communication, SREE has established close  relationship with universities in USA, UK, Germany, Australia, Norway  and Mexico, and also in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.

SREE  has hosted over 200 academic exchange conferences and seminars, and  dispatched more than 120 teachers and students to foreign universities  for study, forming a new pattern of international exchange and  cooperation.

Belief Cultivation

      Centering on the fundamental task of “establishing high moral values  for cultivating people”, SREE has focused on education with belief,  healthy study atmosphere, innovation ability and comprehensive  competence enhancement. The School has worked on the cultivation of  innovative talents with a distinctive practical education system.

      In recent years, students in SREE have obtained 115 National,  Provincial or Ministerial Awards in Youth Challenge Cup Entrepreneurship  Program Competition, National College Student Energy Saving and  Emission Reduction Competition, the Practical Work Competition of the  National University in Mining Engineering, National Academy of Mineral  Processing Engineering Practice Competition, National Security Science  and Engineering Majors' Practice and Innovation Competition,  Environmental Creativity Competition, The Outstanding Scientific  Research Achievement Award of Hubei University Students. In terms of  research papers and patents, the total number made by undergraduate  students is 269. In total, the employment rate of undergraduate and  graduate students has exceeded 97%.
